PAST MASTERS SPRING INVITATIONAL
The Spring Invitational Prize Table
This year for the first time, Past Masters organised our own Spring Invitational (watch out Augusta!). It was held on Friday March 30 at Appleby Golf Club, a gem of a moorland course of Willie Fernie design in Cumbria. Twenty seven players, some seasoned, some new to the sticks, gathered from Scotland and across the North of England on a cool, dry day, each personally invited by Hick Homer to get their golfing juices flowing.
There were two concurrent titles up for grabs, the North British Hickory Championship for the best scratch score with a prize also for the Best Nett score in the Championship, and The Past Masters Hickory Challenge, a Stableford event.
It was a great atmosphere and, even though some may have struggled in the conditions, all had a great time in good company.
The North British Hickory Champion 2007 is Iain Seath, the professional at Liberton Golf Club in Edinburgh (second from the left) and John Liddle, a 2 handicap player at Liberton (far left). They played with fellow club members Stephen Doyle and David Kerr.
The Best Nett score in the
Championship was Mike Fox (86-9-77) , a member at
Grange-over-Sands Golf Club and playing hickory golf for the first time - an
excellent achievement. Mike is pictured far left with playing partners Les
Mickelthwaite, Rowland Davis and Ray Newton.
The Past Masters Hickory
Challenge was won by John Pearson of York Golf Club.
